Italy - City of Vicenza and the Palladian Villas of the Veneto

Founded in the 2nd century B.C. in northern Italy, the city prospered under Venetian rule, from the early 15th to the end of the 18th century. The work of Andrea Palladio (1508-1580), based on the intimate study of classical Roman architecture, gave the city its unique appearance. His work, including twenty-four villas in the surrounding Veneto region, inspired a distinct architectural style (Palladian style) which spread to England, other European countries and to North America.

Fondee au IIe siecle av. J.-C. dans le nord de l'Italie, la cite a prospere sous la domination venitienne, du debut du XVe a la fin du XVIIIe siecle. L'oeuvre d'Andrea Palladio (1508-1580), fondee sur une etude approfondie de l'architecture romaine classique, donna a la ville son apparence unique. Ses interventions urbaines et ses villas, dont il parsema toute la Venetie, eurent une influence decisive sur le cours ulterieur de l'architecture. Son travail a inspire un style architectural caracteristique (le palladianisme) qui s'est repandu en Angleterre, dans d'autres pays d'Europe et en Amerique du Nord.

Ciudad de Veneto, cuya fundacion se remonta al siglo II antes de Cristo, Vicenza se enorgullece de un urbanismo debido a Andrea Paladio (1508 - 1580). Posee no menos de 26 edificios o parte de construcciones a los que se reconoce como concebidos o reconstruidos por este genial arquitecto o que se le atribuyen a el. Por este motivo, la ciudad ha ejercido una gran influencia en la arquitectura y urbanismo en una gran parte del mundo.

Die im 2ten Jahrhundert vor Christus in Norditalien gegrundete Stadt hat sich vom Anfang des 15ten bis zum Ende des 18ten Jahrhunderts unter der venezianischen Beherrschung entwickelt. Das Werk von Antonio Palladio (1508 - 1580), das nach einer langen Untersuchung der romischen klassischen Architektur anfing, gab der Stadt ihr ausserordentliches Aussehen. Seine Erschaffungen in der Stadt und in den Villen, die er im ganzem Venetien gebaut hat, haben danach den Lauf der Architektur entscheidend beeinflusst. Sein Werk hat ein charakterliches Architekturstil, das Palladianismus, inspiriert, das sich auf England, andere europaische Lander und in Nordamerika verbreitet hat.
