The Imperial tombs of the Ming and Qing are natural sites that have been modified by human influence. They were chosen after careful consideration of the principles of geomancy (fengshui) to house numerous buildings of traditional architectural design and decoration. They illustrate the five-century-long continuity of a world view and concept of power specific to feudal China.
