Seychelles - Aldabra

The
atoll is comprised of four large coral islands which enclose a shallow
lagoon; the group of islands is itself surrounded by a coral reef. Due to difficulties
of access and the atoll's isolation, Aldabra has been protected from human
influence and has as such become a refuge for some 152,000 giant tortoises,
the world's largest population of this reptile.

Il comprend quatre grandes iles de
corail exhausse qui enferment une lagune peu profonde. L'ensemble est
lui-meme entoure d'un recif. En raison des difficultes d'acces et de
l'isolement, Aldabra a ete preserve de l'influence humaine et est devenu un
refuge pour quelque 152 000 tortues terrestres geantes qui constituent la
plus grande population mondiale de ce reptile.

Cuatro
grandes islas de coral emergido encierran una laguna poco profunda. El
conjunto se encuentra a su vez rodeado de un arrecife. Las dificultades de
acceso y el aislamiento de Aldabra la han preservado de la influencia humana
y han permitido la supervivencia de unas 150.000 tortugas terrestres
gigantes. El atolon tiene para la investigacion cientifica un interes
comparable al de las islas Galapagos.

Dieses Atoll
enthalt vier grosse Inseln aus ausgeschuttener Koralle, die eine untiefe Lagune
einschliessen. Er ist auch mit einem Riff umgeben. Wegen der
Zugangschwierigkeiten und der Isolierung ist Aldabra gegen den menschlichen
Einfluss behalten worden. Das Atoll ist ein Wohnungsort fur etwa 152.000
riesige Schildkroten geworden, die die grosste Bevolkerung dieser
Reptilienarten in der ganzen Welt bilden. |
