Solomon Islands - Rennell East

East Rennell makes up the southern third of Rennell Island, the southernmost island in the Solomon Island group in the western Pacific. Rennell, 86 km long and 15 km wide, is the largest raised coral atoll in the world. The site covers approximately 37,000 hectares plus a marine area extending three nautical miles to sea. A major feature of the island is Lake Tegano which was the former lagoon on the atoll. The lake, the largest in the insular Pacific (15,500 hectares), is brackish and contains many rugged limestone islands and endemic species. Rennell is mostly covered with dense forest with a canopy averaging 20 m in height. Combined with strong climatic effects of frequent cyclones, the site is a true natural laboratory for scientific study. The site is under customary land ownership and management.

Iles Salomon - Rennell Est

Rennell Est est situe dans le tiers meridional de Rennell, ile la plus australe de l'archipel des Salomon. Rennell, le plus grand atoll corallien sureleve du monde, mesure 86 km de long et 15 km de large et couvre 87 500 ha. La superficie du site designe est de 37 000 hectares environ, avec un secteur marin s'etendant jusqu'a trois milles nautiques. Une des caracteristiques principales de l'ile est le lac Tegano, ancien lagon de l'atoll et le plus grand lac du Pacifique insulaire (15 500 ha). Il est saumatre et contient de nombreuses iles calcaires accidentees. Rennell est essentiellement couverte de forets denses dont la canopee atteint, en moyenne, 20 metres de hauteur. Avec les effets climatiques marques de cyclones frequents, le site est un veritable laboratoire naturel pour l'etude scientifique. La terre est en propriete et gestion coutumiere.

Rennell Este se encuentra situado en el tercio meridional de Rennell, la isla mas austral del archipielago de Salomon. Rennell, el mayor atolon coralino emergente del mundo, mide 86 km de longitud por 15 km de ancho. La superficie del sitio clasificado posee unas 37.000 ha, con un sector marino que se extiende hasta tres millas nauticas. Una de las caracteristicas de la isla es el lago Tegano, antigua laguna del atolon y el mayor lago del Pacifico insular (15.500 ha). De aguas salobres, contiene numerosas islas calcareas de relieve accidentado. Con efectos climaticos marcados por frecuentes ciclones el sitio es un autentico laboratorio natural para estudios cientificos.

Inseln Salomonen - Ostrennell

Ostrennell befindet sich im sudlichen Drittel Rennells, der sudlichsten Insel des Archipels Salomons. Rennell, das grosste hochliegende Korallenatoll in der Welt, ist 86 Kilometer lang und 15 Kilometer breit und bedeckt 87.500 Hektaren. Die Flache der zur Welterbeliste gehorenden Statte ist circa 37.000 Hektaren mit einer Seezone, die bis drei nautischen Meilen liegt. Eines der Hauptkennzeichen der Insel ist der Teganosee, eine ehemalige Lagune des Atolls und der grosste See im insularen Pazifik. Er ist brackig und schliesst zahlreiche hugelige Kalkinseln ein. Rennell ist besonders von dichten Waldern bedeckt, deren Baumehohe durchschnittlich 20 Meter ist. Wegen der Klimaeffekten unter anderen haufige Wirbelsturme ist die Statte ein echtes naturliches Laboratorium fur die wissenschaftliche Forschung. Das Land ist in Gewohnheitseigenschaft und -verwaltung.
