Italy - Historic Centre of Siena

Siena is the embodiment of a medieval city. Its inhabitants, transposing their rivalry with Florence to the area of urban planning, pursued a Gothic dream down the centuries, preserving the appearance their city had acquired between the 12th and 15th centuries. During this period Duccio, the Lorenzetti brothers and Simone Martini were shaping the paths of Italian and, more broadly, European art. The entire city, converging on the masterpiece of urban planning that is the Piazza del Campo, was devised as a work of art incorporated into the surrounding landscape.

Sienne est un des archetypes de la ville medievale. Transposant sur le plan urbain leur rivalite avec Florence, ses habitants ont poursuivi a travers le temps un reve gothique et ont su conserver a leur ville le visage acquis entre le XIIe et le XVe siecle. A cette epoque, Duccio, les freres Lorenzetti et Simone Martini tracaient les voies de l'art italien et, plus largement, europeen. La ville entiere, convergeant vers le chef-d'oeuvre d'espace urbain qu'est la Piazza del Campo, fut alors concue comme une oeuvre d'art integree au paysage environnant.

Transponiendo en su planificacion urbana su rivalidad con Florencia, sus habitantes han perseguido a traves del tiempo un sueno gotico y han sabido conservar en su ciudad el aspecto adquirido entre los siglos XII y XV. En esta epoca, Duccio, los hermanos Lorenzetti y Simone Martini trazaban los caminos del arte italiano y mas ampliamente, del europeo. Toda la ciudad, que converge en una obra maestra del espacio urbano como es la Piazza del Campo, fue concebida como una obra de arte integrada en el paisaje que la rodea.

Die Einwohner, die ihre Rivalitat mit Florenz in der Architektur umgestellt haben, haben in der Zeit einen gotischen Traum fortgesetzt und haben das zwischen den 12ten und 15ten Jahrhunderten erlangene Aussehen ihrer Stadt behalten konnen. In diesem Zeitlalter trassierten Duccio, die Bruder Lorenzetti und Simone Martini die Strassen der italienischen und, im allgemeinen, der europaischen Kunst. Die ganze Stadt, die in dem Piazza del Campo, einem Meisterwerk des stadtischen Raums, konvergiert, wurde dann als ein Kunstwerk gefasst, das sich in der umgebenden Landschaft einfugt.
